Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine, one of Tokyo's most historic and picturesque shrines, offers a stunning setting for proposal photography and couples' portraits. Known for its iconic pathway of vibrant vermillion torii gates, the shrine exudes a timeless and romantic charm. The serene grounds, adorned with lush greenery and seasonal flowers like azaleas in spring, create a peaceful and intimate atmosphere. The traditional architecture and quiet beauty of the shrine make it a versatile location, blending cultural heritage with natural elegance. Conveniently located in central Tokyo, Nezu Shrine is a perfect backup spot for capturing heartfelt and unforgettable moments.

Get the Torii gates look without the insane crowds

Much like it’s popular Kyoto counterpart, Nezu Shrine in Tokyo has a long line of Torii gates where you can get photos taken without the huge crowds. We love the colours of the Azalea bushes, ticking off botanicals and tradition in the same location.

Photoshoot Details

  • Taken in spring, shortly after the cherry blossom season 2024.
  • There is a long line for the Torii gates around this time since the Azalea season is when this shrine is the most popular. You need to pay a fee to walk through the Azalea paths.
  • When you visit this shrine during non-peak times, there’s less people around, and can make good shrine style photos.
  • A good proposal standing spot could be on the Azalea hill and zoom shot taken from below.
